FAQ
UTM parameters are tags added to a URL that tell analytics tools where traffic came from. The five parameters are utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, and utm_content.
UTM parameters do not affect SEO rankings. They are stripped by Google Search Console and ignored by crawlers. They only affect analytics data, not how pages are indexed.
utm_source identifies where the traffic comes from (e.g. google, facebook, newsletter). utm_medium identifies the marketing channel (e.g. cpc, email, social). Together they tell you which platform and what type of campaign drove the visit.
Yes — Google Analytics treats "Google" and "google" as two separate sources. Always use lowercase and underscores instead of spaces to keep your reports consistent.
